Hub Australia recently announced the details of its next location.
Hub Flinders Street will open in Melbourne in 2021, bringing the premium standard of workspaces we’ve become known for to a new end of Melbourne’s CBD.

The newest location is set in the iconic and historic Ball & Welch building at 180 Flinders Street, overlooking Federation Square and Flinders Lane, and only moments from Flinders Street Station.

The history of Ball & Welch

Ball & Welch was a successful firm of drapers, established on the goldfields in the early 1850s before expanding throughout nearby areas, eventually reaching Melbourne’s CBD in 1899.

The original building was designed by Reed Smart & Tappin, and extended in 1911.

Melbourne’s first bright spark

The Flinders Street Ball & Welch department store was home to the first example of outdoor neon advertising in the early 1900s, with the new technology able to be seen from as far as the Dandenong Ranges.

Georges Australia Ltd, past owners of The Georges Building (home to Hub Collins Street), bought Ball & Welch in 1970, operating it for most of the decade.

The Ball & Welch department store was a great example of Melbourne’s love for quality, becoming renowned as the city’s leading family draper and selling everything from gloves and umbrellas to millinery and corsets.

Moving into the future

Hub Flinders Street joins other premium businesses and brands moving into the building in 2021, as Dexus expands the building into an A-grade business centre.

With Hub Australia securing a section of the currently under-construction building, the interior spaces will be transformed into a range of premium workspaces and amenities.

Suites and spaces with style

Hub Australia is working with Hassell to design their fourth Melbourne coworking space, with a wider range of workspace solutions than ever before.

Suites will be available for large teams, offering stunning self-contained spaces with internal meeting rooms and offices as well as access to the premium features, events, and wider community that are a highlight of coworking spaces and flexible workspaces.

A new home for Melbourne’s best businesses

Hub Flinders Street will provide an in-house café, dedicated clubhouse team, and range of meeting rooms and serviced meeting spaces to help members grow their businesses.
