Hub Australia

7th December 2021

This year, Hub Australia was certified as a Great Place to Work® for the third year in a row, coming in at number 17 on the Australia’s Best Workplaces List. Run by a global organisation, Great Place To Work specialises in employee engagement and organisational alignment, and how they affect high-performance workplace cultures.

So, what is it exactly that makes Hub a great place to work? In addition to stylish workspaces and a supportive team culture, Hub offers a whole range of benefits to its team, including:

  • A day off for your birthday
  • Personalised training and development fund
  • Wellness fund to spend on physical and mental health
  • Employee Assistance Program with telephone and in-person options
  • Two day’s volunteering leave each year
  • An in-house barista-run café with discounted coffee
  • A private parents’ space
  • Access to hundreds of discounts on popular brands like Woolworths, The Iconic, Coles, Apple, and more
  • Access to networking, social, and professional development events

Don’t just take our word for it, though. We sat down with some of our newest additions to the Hub team to talk about what attracted them to apply for a position at Hub, and what they’ve enjoyed most about their time with us so far.

Steph Schroeder – Concierge, Hub Anzac Square

How long have you been working at Hub, and what’s your position?

I’ve been working at Hub for almost six months, but it feels like I’ve been here for a lot longer! I’m the Concierge at Hub Anzac Square.

What does a typical day look like for you?

My mornings are generally quite busy – the first 15-45 minutes are focused on helping people at the Welcome Desk, and this can be anything from member queries, to visitors, to forgotten passes. Once the desk quietens down I get started on the admin side of things, which involves answering emails, directing emails in the general inbox to the correct team, as well as receiving all the physical mail.

I have found that no two days are ever the same. Sometimes I’m finding solutions to an issue that I have never encountered before, and sometimes it’s trying to sneakily get a member to come to the Welcome Desk to collect a present their partner has dropped off for them. Every day it is something new, so I have to be ready for anything.

What attracted you to apply for a position at Hub?

The position sounded interesting, varied, and customer-facing, which is what I was looking for. When I did some further research on Hub, I became more interested when I found out that Hub is B Corp and Carbon Neutral Certified. Then, of course, there were all the additional benefits for employees, like birthday leave and a wellness fund.

What do you enjoy most about working at Hub?

There are so many things; my team is fantastic and very supportive. The culture at Hub is incredibly positive and I feel like I can reach out to anyone, even if they’re located interstate. The job itself keeps me on my toes, and I get to meet so many interesting people.

Nick Makeyev – Hospitality Lead, Hub Adelaide

How long have you been working at Hub, and what’s your position?

I’ve been at Hub for about four months, and I’m the Hospitality Lead at Hub Adelaide.

What does a typical day look like for you?

A typical day includes setting up the cafe space, serving members and the public coffee and food, looking after the serviced meeting space guests if we have bookings, and other general back of house administration. I am still relatively new to Hub so there are always new procedures and systems to learn.

What attracted you to apply for a position at Hub?

I’d heard many good things through people who worked at Hub as members. I initially applied for the role of Barista as I was just re-entering the workforce after some unplanned time off, and it seemed like a great transition to get back into the swing of coffee service. Next minute I was interviewing for the Hospitality Lead role instead, and thankfully I was successful!

What do you enjoy most about working at Hub?

There are so many aspects that are great about working at Hub, but primarily it’s the wonderful people that I get to meet; both members and externals who have become regulars in the cafe.

It is always encouraging to have so many familiar faces come back regularly, and tell me about their positive experiences at Hub.

Welma Mackie – Concierge, Hub Civic Quarter

How long have you been working at Hub, and what’s your position?

I’ve been working at Hub for four months, and I’m the Concierge at Hub Civic Quarter.

What does a typical day look like for you?

My typical day consists of greeting all of the Hub members and guests, and assisting people with elevators, parking, and booking serviced meeting spaces. As I am the first point of contact in the building, I also assist the tenants with any issues or concerns they may have.

What attracted you to apply for a position at Hub?

I was actually temping for one of the tenants at Civic Quarter and we booked a room in the Business Centre, so I got to meet and work with some of the Hub team.

The main thing that attracted me to the role was how happy everyone looked, and I could tell they genuinely enjoyed their jobs.

What do you enjoy most about working at Hub?

I really like that you are not just a number at Hub. They really care about their employees and give us great benefits like the wellness fund, personal development fund, and a day off on your birthday. The culture at Hub is fantastic – everyone has been so friendly, helpful and caring. My team is amazing and always there to support me with whatever I need, and they always make me feel appreciated.

Sanam Goodman – Content and Copywriting Lead

How long have you been working at Hub, and what’s your position?

I’ve been working at Hub for just over a month, and my position is Content and Copywriting Lead in the National Team.

What does a typical day look like for you?

A typical day for me starts with me jumping on to our social accounts, replying to comments, solving any issues, and chatting with our followers and members. After that, I’ll usually read any coworking newsletters and emails in my inbox, to make sure I’m keeping up to date with what’s happening in the industry. Then, I might schedule some social posts, write copy for any new ads we have planned, and brainstorm and create blog posts for the website. Most days I’ll also write copy for any signage in our clubhouses, newsletters, or guides that we’re putting together. It’s a super varied job where no two days are the same, which is what I love about it!

What attracted you to apply for a position at Hub?

When I first began looking for a copywriting job, I was really looking for a workplace that values employee wellbeing and has a positive culture. During the interview stage, it was really clear to me how much Hub cares about it’s employees and promotes a healthy work life balance, which is really important. I was impressed by the wellness fund and opportunities for professional development, as well as the company’s commitment to the environment and sustainability.

What do you enjoy most about working at Hub?

I love how everyone is willing to lend a hand and help you out, no matter how big the task at hand. From the moment I started working at Hub I felt supported by my fellow team members, and the Hub team in general. It’s a really social workplace, which makes coming to work really enjoyable!

Jordan Morgan – Concierge, Hub Flinders Street

How long have you been working at Hub, and what’s your position?

I’ve been working at Hub for just over six months now (even though it still feels like I started yesterday!). My position is Concierge at Hub Flinders Street.

What does a typical day look like for you?

A typical day for me usually starts with a busy morning welcoming our guests and members into the clubhouse, as well as setting up the space and switching on our ‘Hub scent’. Things usually mellow out after the morning rush, and I get stuck into the admin work that keeps the clubhouse running smoothly, which includes onboarding our new members and ensuring that departing members have everything sorted for their move out. In the afternoon our clubhouse team usually has a brief catch up, and by that time the day is almost over!

What attracted you to apply for a position at Hub?

I’ve worked in coworking previously and I love the culture of the coworking environment. To me, Hub stands out as the cream of the crop when it comes to coworking. Hub is one of those companies that doesn’t just have a set of values for the sake of it, they actually live and breathe them.

What do you enjoy most about working at Hub?

Definitely the amazing people that I work with! They have felt like family from my very first day, and if that isn’t a sign of a great place to work then I don’t know what is.

Amanda Xu – Community and Operations Lead, Hub Collins Street

How long have you been working at Hub, and what’s your position?

I’ve been working at Hub for a month and a half now, and my role is Community and Operations Lead at Hub Collins Street.

What does a typical day look like for you?

My typical day involves a considerable amount of interaction with members, helping them with various requests and queries. It’s always a delight to chat with members around the space and learn more about their businesses. A big part of my role is working with my team to ensure that the location is operating smoothly, that members are onboarded and offboarded successfully, and that we are delivering high levels of customer service to all our members and their guests.

What attracted you to apply for a position at Hub?

During my job search, I had heard through the grapevine that Hub had a great company culture and this was supported by online employee reviews that I had seen, as well as recognition of Hub being a Great Place To Work®. Plus, Hub’s locations looked absolutely amazing in online photos and videos! I got excited by the idea of working in such modern and premium offices.

What do you enjoy most about working at Hub?

Hands down the most enjoyable thing about working at Hub is the people that you work with. Everyone in the Hub Australia team, company-wide, is so friendly and supportive and you will find yourself making good friends quickly. There is such a focus on teamwork and recognition, it truly creates a great team culture and work environment for everyone.
